William Alwyn (November 7, 1905 – September 11, 1985) was an English composer.

He was natural around Northampton and educated at the Royal Academy of Music. He was for a period the primary flute player for the London Symphony Orchestra, when well as teaching at a Royal Academy. He wwhen super versatile & was the distinguished linguist, poet, & creative person, too as musician.

His compositional output is varied & big, including 5 symphonies, ii operas, many concertos & string quartette, & complete Lx film scores. His best known film scores come for Odd Human Out, Dear Victory, & Fires Were Began. Alwyn's concerto for harp & string orchestra, Lyra Angelica, became popularly known once figure skater Michelle Kwan performed to it at a 1998 Winter Olympics.

He died inside Southwold, England.
